MRI Result

Today I got a phone call from Kayda's doctor. He was calling to give me the results of her MRI I was expecting him to say that it was extra fatty tissue like they thought and sometime in the future we should think about taking it out. Instead I was asked if I could come and meet him today (that is never good). He said that the results were not good and we needed to come up with a plan on what to do next. I asked if they thought it was cancer and he said that is the main concern. This is never news any parents wants to hear, especially one that is tyring to get ready for a long trip and a marathon in one day, but what can you do. I spent most of the morning crying and trying to figure out what to do. I am grateful for all my wonderful friends and family that are so willing to help.

I am still a little emotional, but I am feeling a lot better now. Reddin and I meet with the doctor and they said that the results of the MRI are inconclusive, but that it looks like it is a sarcoma (that is soft tissue Cancer). The plan is to try to remove all of it if possible, but if that is not possible then he will do surgery to get a small piece of it so they can do a biopsy, if it is cancer then they will need to start chemotherapy. Our doctor is going to meet with an oncologist and a orthopedic surgeon this week to come up with a plan and they are going to try to operate on May 3rd if possible. I am still hoping and praying that it is not cancer and we are all hoping they can get the whole mass out without damaging any nerves or muscles in her arm. My poor sweet little girl, she has no idea what is in store from her when we get back from our trip.

Kayda's MRI

Kayda had her MRI today and I think it went okay. It was weird because I was not with her. I went back into a room with her and they told me what was going to happen and then they told me I would wait out in the waiting room and they would come get me in an hour or so. Kayda didn't want to even wear the hospital bracelet, so I was not sure how it would go, but she walked down the hall holding the nurses hand and holding her blanket saying mommy mommy. It really broke my heart, but it is over now and we should have results tomorrow I think. They had me come back into the recovery room after she was done and she was fast asleep. They had warned me ahead of time that when she woke up she would be pretty upset and fussy and they were right. She didn't want the IV in her hand anymore and she was really fussy. After she was able to keep some water and juice down they let me take her home, but they would not let me carry her out to the car instead I had to sit in a wheelchair and they wheeled both of us right up to the door of my van (I felt ridiculous). Kayda was frustrated and fussy the whole way home, but after I set her down and gave her some crackers and cereal she started to act better and she seems okay now. Great job Kayda!!

One Week and Counting!

I only have one more week before I will run in my first marathon in Big Sur/ Monterey California. I am so excited, I feel like I have put in the training and will probably be just fine. I am excited for a family vacation, to actually get to say I have run a marathon, and to have fun friends to run with. This week I think I will be busy washing clothes and starting the packing process ( I cannot wait).

My dad and I at pat's run

Yesterday Reddin, my dad, and I all ran in the the Pat's run race in Tempe. It was so crowded they said they had over 28,000 people and I think I believe it. We lost Reddin before the race even started and I didn't find him until the end. I lost my dad when it first started so we all ended up running alone, but we all had a good time. I finished in 33:18 it was 4.2 miles and I felt great the whole time. I really like races I just wish I had the funds to run in more of them. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Evans for watching our girls, they had a fun slumber party and I really would have been worried about them in that crowd.

I think I need a vacation!!

Do you ever have those days when you feel like a bad parent, because all you do is get upset at your kids, well I feel like I have been having one of those months instead of one of those days. I don't know what the problem is, sometimes Payton just wakes up cranky, which doesn't help and I try to get the day started off okay and for the most part I think we do okay in the mornings, but by the late afternoon and early evening the kids are fighting and crying, and I am yelling and I just get frustrated. I kept sending the kids back to their rooms today while I was making dinner, because they would not stop fighting and they kept asking me for something every two seconds and I could not handle it. I feel so bad yelling, but it seems to come so natural to me these days. I just wanted them to play together with some of their toys, but I was having no luck. I really am starting to wonder why I have any toys in my house, because they never seem to play with them , isn't that the point of having toys so they can help entertain your kids?

Anyways I know I am complaining, I really do love my kids, and I think they are pretty good kids. I just think the fact that my kids are waking up early and cranky and the fact that Reddin is so busy at work and does not get home until late is catching up with me. I am hoping that our trip next week will be a good change of pace for everyone in the family.

Easter Recap

Well it has been a week so I should probably blog about our Easter before I forget about it all together (I don't know why I feel so busy lately). Anyways Easter weekend started out with a long 21 miles run for me on Saturday morning followed by a fun egg hunt in our community, it is not really a hunt, because they just throw the eggs out and kids go running, but it was fun. After that Reddin went mountain biking and the girls and I went home for a little bit before heading out the the next egg hunt and Chick-fil-a. Kayda would find one egg with candy in it and was happy to just take one and be done. Payton was blindfolded for her egg hunt at chick-fil-a and had the crawl on her hands and knees until she felt something to put in her basket (it was a good idea and Payton did really well).

Saturday night we hung out and Grandma and Grandpa Evan's house while all the guys went to the priesthood session, I like that Kayda is old enough to go play with her cousins now she seems to have no fear.

Sunday morning the girls woke up found there Easter baskets, and then my parents and brother came over for brunch, we had a great time sitting outside relaxing and talking while the kids played and looked for Easter eggs (they just had money in them this year, it was a great idea). After everyone left from my house and after Kayda woke up from her nap we went over the Reddin's parents house for the rest of the evening. We dyed Easter eggs, eat a great dinner, had our annual Easter egg bash, and the kids got to go on an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. It was a really fun day.

The Social life of a 4 year old. Update on Kayda

Today Payton has 3 birthday parties to go to and then we have a wedding reception to attend tonight. Surprising she is able to go to all the birthday parties there is about 1 hour in between each one, and it has worked out pretty good so far. Today is a dream come true for Payton. She constantly wants to be playing with a friend so today has been great because she gets to go from one party to the next. Wouldn't it be fun to be a four year old again sometime.

Update on Kayda, Kayda did really well at her doctor's appointment yesterday and I really liked the doctor. They still do not know what might be in her arm, but it is most likely extra fatty tissue. She has to get an MRI soon to find out for sure what it is and to find out the exact location. It sounds like no matter what she will mostly likely have to have surgery even if it is fatty tissue, because it could get infected and it could affect her range of motion later on. I think Kayda will be okay I just hope I can be a brave mom.

Poor Kayda

Today I have to take Kayda to yet another doctors appointment. Several weeks ago Reddin noticed a little lump inside her arm, we took her to urgent care to get it checked out and they said that it was not broken and to follow up with our regular pediatrician. My Pediatrician said I needed to go get an ultrasound done because it was a little weird for her to have something like that. I took her in for the ultrasound a few weeks ago and Kayda did surprisingly well. We got the results of the ultrasound which confirmed there was something there that is about 1.5 centimeters big, but they don't know for sure what it is, so the next step is an MRI. Today I am taking Kayda to an Pediatric Surgeon so they can look at the ultrasounds and see if an MRI is really necessary. Wish us luck I hope she does okay with her appointment today.

Question?

Why do I have such a sweet tooth? I know I should not eat as much sugar as I do but I seem to have no self control and it bugs me. It is so annoying , because I run around 30 - 45 miles a week and I feel like I never stop going going going all day, but yet I still gain weight, it makes no since to me. Every morning I wake up thinking I will try not to eat sweets today and I never make it very far. Maybe I will be able to do better next week after Easter, I don't want to cut out sugar completely, but I would like to lose a few pounds and feel better about myself. Maybe I need to find a good incentive, or maybe I should just be happy with my body the way it is and not worry about it, I don't know, any tips to help with my sweet tooth?
